Customer FeedbackOne thing we spell out on our site is to ask as many questions as you want prior to ordering. There were customers whose issues were not fixed because of misdiagnosis and were not satisfied with our kit even though we did not diagnose it for them. We strive to not recommend our kit if we are not confident it will resolve your issues. If you have worn bores, our kit will fix the problem when installed properly. "Andrew, Installed the servo in my 2007 Explorer this past weekend. Man what a life saver you came up with. These servos saved me 2200 bucks because I didn't have to do a rebuild on the tranny. It was a little challenging to get the servos loose but well worth the time invested. I was going to post this on your web page but could not find a link to post it to. Please post this to your page so others will see what a cost saving produce you have to offer.
Thanks Again. Steve"

"Morning Andy, I can't thank you enough for the transmission repair kit for the Ford 5R55W transmission in my 2003 Ford Explorer. Was a difficult job, but got installed without removing the exhaust. Just 2 heat shields on the passenger side front car was enough to gain access to the defective servo. A small Barber's mirror was a great help in seeing inside the transmission and doing the cleaning and prep work. The most difficult part of the job was getting the snap ring out and back in again. The transmission shifts like new with 213,000 Mike's on the odometer. Very refreshing in this day of false advertising, hype, and general BS to find a product that does exactly what it is advertised to do, and excellent support. Please feel free to use this review as a public product endorsement. Doug McCullough, Coldwater, Mississippi"

"I just wanted to thank you for this product. I bought a 2004 Explorer(4.0 4x4 with 84,000 miles) with a “bad transmission”, that a shop said needed rebuilt. Wouldn’t shift to 2nd until letting off the throttle, and the O/D light would flash.
Came across your website while looking up trans removal instructions. Instead of pulling the whole trans I figured I’d check the servos. The O/D servo rod was broken off the cup. Had some bore wear too, but not much. Order your servo fix last week. It arrived quickly and I followed the instructions. It shifts great now! Thanks again for your product! You all are a lifesaver!"
Andrew D. from Lakewood Colorado bought our servo kit and on 7/17/19 said
"This solution works! I bought my Explorer used with 153k miles from my employer who said it needed a new transmission. I checked the codes and did the research so I knew it as a servo problem. Ordered the kit which came in right on time and in good order. I also ordered new snap rings and the snap ring pliers and the band adjuster socket. I followed the directions and left the transmission in the car. I put it up on jack stands and after removing the intermediate servo I found the shaft had broken away from the cup. The bores looked okay, but I replaced both the overdrive and intermediate servos with the AJ1E oring servos. Adjusted the bands and buttoned it all up. I cleared the codes from the ECM and took a test drive. No more flare shifting or hard shifts and it has been working perfectly for over 200 miles now! Very happy with the fix! Thanks!"
Rob B. from Bedford NH bought our servo kit on 4/1/19 and said
"You can add me to another successful fix! 2000 Mercury Mountaineer had delayed reverse and overdrive was intermittent at best. The procedures you have show an upper and lower heat shield, mine only had a clip-on heat shield right at the 2 servo bores. I detached the first clip ring without issue and fought with the 2nd one, but got it out. The first servo bore popped right out the 2nd one held on like a suction cup. After fighting with it, I decided lets start the motor and cycle the gears, reverse, neutral drive and then back to park. Checked underneath and the 2nd one popped out too. Replaced them both and performed a quick test drive success, reverse works without any delay now, and smooth shifting through all the gears. Gas average jumped from 8 miles to the gallon to over 15 now and that shows my overdrive is working fine now. The first servo bore I replaced had a tear in the rubber right at the metal bond, and the 2nd one had a nice brown shellac on it. Looking forward to driving the 20 year old beast again. Saved thousands with your kit. Thanks a million Andrew! Rob B."
James R. from Lakewood WA bought our servo kit and solenoid pack on 2/28/19 and said
"I just wanted to reach out and say thank you for your great customer service. I had an issue with the original product which was most likely my fault. The team at AJ1E talked me through the various ways of fixing the issue and provided a replacement very quickly. I installed the unit last night and my transmission seems to be working great! It is rare to talk to someone at a company who actually wants to help and is also very knowledgeable about the products, so again thank you! James"
Tony S. from AZ bought the wrong kit and needed some assistance and said on 2/19/19
"I know it is the weekend so you most likely will not get his until Monday. I wanted to say thank you for sending out the correct servos for my transmission. I shipped out the original parts that were shipped yesterday. Thank you again for the great customer service! I hope to do business with AJ1E again in the future for any of my own, my friend’s or family’s Ford Explorer family transmission problems. You guys have been nothing but great through the entire process. Thank you again"
Brian E. from Moravia, NY bought our servo, snap rings, orings and pliers on 12/2/18 for an early model explorer and said
"The servo repair kit I purchased for my 99 Explorer with a 5r55e transmission worked great. I lost overdrive completely 2 weeks ago. A transmission with 190,000 miles I assumed I would have to pull and rebuild. Your kit resolved my issue completely and we are back motoring down the road. I hope you continue to produce these kits in the future. Demand for them may change in time as there may be fewer of these vehicles on the road... but their availability to customers as either an update or on the spot repair to resolve a known issue with these transmissions is important and appreciated.
Thank you so much again, Brian E"
Bryan W. from PA bought our servo and pliers on 11/28/18 and said
"As a former Senior Master Ford technician, I was skeptical with your product. I specialized in transmission repair and when my wife’s 2003 Ford Explorer lost 2nd and 5th gears, I thought I’d have to remove the transmission and rebuild it. The Explorer has 154,00 miles and has seen better days. I’ve rebuilt dozens of these particular transmissions and have installed dozens of the bronze inserts, so I thought I’d have to do this with this transmission. I bought your product and installed it today. It was almost too easy to install. It shifts perfectly! Thank you for your invention. "

"Thanks for the quick shipping. I took about 4 hours to complete the install of the IM and OD Servos on my 4r44e (2000 Ranger 3.0 2WD). I removed the catalytic converter as part of this install due to my big hands not able to quite get to the servos. Waaaay better and only about $20 extra cost for the exhaust gaskets. I now have a smooth shifting transmission with hopefully many more miles on it (recent rebuild with 11k miles on it and just out of warranty). So this fix was what the doctor ordered!! Again, basic mechanical skills needed and you are good to go... Thanks again Andy for also calling to confirm the servo size. Take care!"

"The product is great. I've had this hard (hit) shifting issue going on for two years. The transmission shop closed it's door after me (warranty repair was kicking them in the butt). I was looking to repair the transmission myself since everybody I talked too was non-responsive to my issue (even the dealership). After spending more than $2500.00 on my tranny issue it was time to go full replacement at a cost of $$$$$$ more in just 2 years. While looking for parts to replace/repair the transmission, I came across your site and read the issue that your product claimed to resolved (it all sounded familiar). At less than 10% of what I was about to spend plus the plan to replace those pistons anyway, why not give it a try? After 6 1/2 hours on my back to work off the snap rings and 1 1/2 hours to remove and replace the shield, it only took a total of 15min to R&R the pistons. Having said that, your product worked, shifts better than when it was new and now the wife is back to driving her truck and I get my car back after 2 long years.....Thanks For The Memories. jfk P.S. 2004 Explorer 4.0L V6 with 253K plus miles (2 transmission rebuilds)."
Chris from WI took our survey and wrote on 5/18/15
"Mission accomplished!! The symptoms and directions (I watched the video and read the directions 3 times) were spot on the result was my 2004 Explorer shifts again properly. Prior to getting the kit I removed the trans pan and looked for any signs of internal damage. I found no metal chips or anything unusual the magnet had normal amount of light fuzz on it like I’ve found on my other trucks when I change the trans fluid. It took me approximately 6 hours’ time including running to the hardware store for 400 grit sand paper and a swivel head wrench also doing it on car ramps and only removing the heat shields. You do have to bend the upper heat shield to get it out so it can wrap around the converter. The removing of the snap rings is what took the most time. The OD snap ring came right off easy with the modified needle nose the IM snap ring was not so easy because of the space and laying on the floor. Both went together quickly make sure to back off the bands so the servos push in far enough to install the new snap rings. I used a 19mm swivel head gear wrench to loosen and tighten the band adjusting lock nut. I also found a 5/16” square socket ¼ drive that fit my torque wrench. I think if I did it again it would go a lot faster. All though I took my time doing it with a few breaks in between. I would recommend getting the kit along with the modified needle nose pliers, modified snap rings and servo cap O rings this makes sense since it’s all apart any way. Andy thank you for giving all the information that gave me the confidence to do this."

"Andy, I'm happy to report that we installed the kit and my son drove to Dallas the same day. About 600 miles...smoothest shifting the vehicle has ever had...no lights...no o/d indicator going off and on. I'll now have him take it and get the filter and fluid changed somewhere in Dallas, and I believe our problem is fixed. The only real issue we had was that we pinched one of the cap seals on the OD cap on initial install. Had to pull it out and get another one and re-install. Took about 15 minutes. Can't thank you enough for your help and for the 'fix'. And thanks again for the credit on the shipping- again, I wasn't looking for that. Barry"

"My 2002 ford explorer was not shifting properly from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. I had a P0775 error code and the blinking "OD/OFF" light. All the shops in my area were telling me it was this or that but all told me the transmission had to come out for a rebuild. I was expecting to pay $2,500 to $3,500 for a transmission rebuild. I am so happy that I found AJ1E Superior Solutions. I was able to install the parts using the detailed video and now it shifts into all gears perfectly. You saved me thousands of dollars! and my Christmas. I cant thank you enough. Have a Very Merry Christmas."

"Absolutely amazing product! I was having problems shifting from first to second and the overdrive light was flashing. I debated on getting it fixed at a transmission shop but they wanted about 3k to fix it. That was just about impossible to justify for a 2003 explorer which is only valued at about that much. Hardest part was removing the snap rings. The hole drilling method worked great because of the position on the rings. I used the a modified 90 degree needle nose pliers to get the rings back in slots. Excellent product. Can't thank you enough!"

Chris from F.T. Enterprises Wrote on 1-2-13
"Hi Andrew, Thought I would give you a follow up to this project. Just a reminder, we discussed that the 2nd/5th band had a lot of wear and would not engage properly before I adjusted it. Here is how it went: I put the Explorer on jack stands, removed the upper and lower heat shields, and began the task of removing the snap ring (10 minutes worth of work so far)." " With the snap ring removed the servo came right out along with at least half a quart of very dirty trans fluid. Following your instructions, I liberally applied the lube and the new servo slid right in and the snap ring right behind it with no issue. While still on the stand I ran it through the gears with no problems other than I kicked an ABS light. The moment of truth, the test drive. I started with in-town then interstate and had no issues! My trusty Harbor Freight scanner showed pending codes (naturally) but after the test drive all was clear and self-reset. My daughter put about 100 miles on it with no issues so I took it down to the Ford Quick Lube and had them change the fluid and filter and engine oil and filter as well. It was worth the $40 labor to me not to have to fool with it. The summary is that for now the “patch” is holding. The unknown is the band and how much wear is actually there. The pan had only a modest amount of metal on the magnet (average for a trans with 118k) and there was not any other material in there. Your product does its job; let’s just hope the band holds for a while!"

"Hi Andy, I just wanted to thank you are anyone else involved in designing/selling these parts. I had the same problem many people are having with the early Ford transmissions and the O/D light as well as shifting problems (@ 70,000 miles). After being quoted over $2,000 from numerous shops, I did some research and found your website. I decided to give it a shot and I couldn't be happier. My car is shifting like new, all the service engine lights and O/D lights are gone. I cant thank you enough. Thank You Again."
Adrianna from San Diego wrote on 4-22-13
"Andy, Well, after a good deal of snap ring frustration, we managed to get the your servo kit installed! We'd opted for the heat shield removal, leaving the cats in the truck, as my truck has 186k miles on it in all sorts of terrain, and the rusted exhaust bolts were unlikely to stand up to any maintenance. The rusted servo rings proved to make the snap ring removal more of a challenge than we expected, especially given the tight space to work in. Thankfully, once removed, your replacement parts slips right in, and the new (slightly modified) snap rings went into place with much less hassle!
My truck is back up and running almost as smoothly as it was four years ago when I bought it! We adjusted the bands as well, and the engine pickup seems to have returned (no more slipping). We're aiming for that 200k mile mark now!
Thank you for making this kit available to the rest of us! It's an ingenious way of adding to the life of a vehicle without breaking the bank to do so! Sincerely, Adrianna"

The O/D light no longer blinked and the transmission would stay in overdrive. I had the confidence to allow my wife to leave early on her trip to Mexico. She drove 400 miles without any issues. Your idea/parts save me $$$$$ and a total transmission rebuild. Bryan"

"Had the same issue as everyone else. Not shifting into 2nd gear. My wife took my '03 explorer to a dealer first because I was out of the country. They wanted to replace the transmission for $3400 + labor. No way. With limited info since I was away I agreed to let them change the solenoid block for total $800. This is what the trouble code diagnostic indicated. Did not fix the issue. When I got back to the states I found your web site.
I chose minimal dis-assembly so I only removed the aluminum heat shield on the converter. Actually I could not completely remove it because it is trapped but undoing the fasteners allows to get it mostly out of the way. Entire Job took approx 3hrs. Hardest part was getting the snap ring out in the tight space I had to work with. Now that I've done it once I could probably do it again in half the time. Only 2 fasteners and one snap ring. That is easy.
Thanks for offering a great product for us do-it-yourselfers. Hopefully I can keep my explorer running for another 150k miles!" Mark

"I just wanted to update you on my servo adventure, and let you know that your servo design worked perfectly. The most difficult part of the job was removing the exhaust system This was my only alternative because the rusted snap ring broke. I created more problems for myself when all of the cross member bolts broke inside of the frame. I spent an entire day drilling and tapping out new threads. If I would have to do this install again, I would stick with cutting the y-pipe instead of removing the entire exhaust. Your servo was a breeze to install . I was shocked to find the factory overdrive servo completely cracked. I cannot believe that Ford does not take fault for this flaw and recall these transmissions. Anyway, the transmission shifts perfectly, and I am a very satisfied customer. You saved me $3,000.00 and I commend you for coming up with such a brilliant idea. Sincerely,Dean Gibsonia Pennsylvania"

Barry"

"Thank you! 203k on my tranny and it is working as good as new. Had to change the filter and fluid to get it exactly right. 4 hours spent on job, thanks to the idiot that designed the snap rings. Could have done the job in under 2 hours except fighting those snap rings. Your package is first class!! Thanks again, Robert Johnson"

"I just wanted to write a note as to how pleased I am with your product. It arrived within a few days of ordering it. Installation took a little longer than expected but the end result is amazing! My 2002 Explorer V6 AWD has never shifted more smoothly than it does now! I was considering junking it after I realized what an expense a transmission rebuild would be.Thank you Andy and your team for saving the average guy a ton of money! I will certainly be recommending your product to others. Thanks again, Markus"

"Andy,I received the parts on Tuesday and my transmission mechanic installed them on Wednesday. They cleared the codes and I did a test drive and my transmission worked great.

"Hi Andrew,
I wanted to let you know that I installed the replacement pistons this past weekend and after a year and a half, I have second gear and over-drive once again! My tyranny problems began over one and a half years and 15000 miles ago. I had been delaying the repair as I thought only a rebuild would get the job done. I now am able to forget all the peculiar driving habits I developed to nurse this thing past second and to avoid 3000 RPMS on the interstate. Thanks for the fix, Jay"
