It worked for me on a 2002 mountaineer .I started having problem right after I bought the car from Craigslist . The code I was getting was po755 shift solenoid B malfunction . When I start accelerating from stop to about 30mph the RPM jumps to x4000 so I have to let go of the gas so it shifts . I was scared to drive the car on the highway because the O/D off light will start blinking when I go above 60mph . When I take the car to ford dealer in rochester they told me to swap the transmission for $3900 ! After googling I found this website . I bought the IM and OD servos on Feb 6th, 2013 for $ 200 and recieved them on the 9th. paid the mechanic $250 and he said it took him 3hrs for everything. The problems are all gone ! I even took the car for a test drive to lacrosse, Wisconsin which is an hour and half from where I live going 75 mph all the way, and saw no problem what so ever !!!!! This product saved me $3400 . and i dont have to baby my car no more!! the guy who fixed my car also suggested to change the tranny filiter because of the metal chips due to the servo being rubbed against the case. i recomend this product for anyone having the same problem( O/D off light blinking, shift problem and po755 code ). its better to fix it right away before causing too much damage to the transmission case. Thank you Andy for your work and for your quick responses for all my emails !!!! Beny

Frank,

I am going to reply to your 1st comment the one without your statement about burning a cross on my yard 1st. The hole continues to wear to some degree even if you sleeve it. We have actually sold our kit to repair shops and transmission places that have had sleeves in them wear enough to cause problems again. One of them was around 70,000 miles.

2nd, It is up to the customer as to how they want to fix their vehicle and at what cost. We give them another option. We have mentioned several places on our site and in our directions that our fix is not permanent, and by the way nothing in the vehicle is a permanent fix it is all a matter of time. We treat our kit as a fix that has a consumable part in it being the oring. Eventually the orings will wear out and need replacing. That may be 30,000 miles it may be 50,000 miles or more. We have had people put 50K on our fix already with no issues.

There are two types of people who do this work. Do it your selfers, or repair shops/transmission shops. We have sold our kit to Ford Dealers who want to offer their customers an option, transmission places who want to do the same, and auto repairs shops along with the do it yourself crowd.

For the do it yourself crowd, since it is their own labor, they can buy the kit and replace the orings as many times as they want. We expect doing this you will get more than 100,000 miles. So for this instance it is their labor, their call on what their time is worth, and the cost of our parts, versus the usually over $1800 to fix it by overhauling it.

As to it continuing to wear, it does, there is no stopping that. However we machine down the sharp edges on the grooves and the OEM machining. The groove on the oem design has a very sharp edge which causes most of the wearing or at least contributes to the speed at which it wears so we eliminate that also.

For the repair shops, tranny places, and dealers, a customer can usually get the work done for less than $300 some as little as $150 as some of our feedback comments show. So that is our fix for as little as $350 for someone paying someone to put it in. From there you can put orings in for as little as $150. So you could put the kit in once and replace the orings several times and still come out ahead financially. By the way we supply orings with the kit and will supply them to any of our customers free any time in the future.

By the way all of this information is on our site we don't hide anything. It is up to the customer to decide how they want to fix their vehicle.

I will reply to your cross burning comment next.

Sorry there is no video on how to install the kit. We are looking to do one this year. If you look at the directions and pictures on our site they are pretty detailed. You can also call us with any questions you have.

Have a 2004 Explorer. O/D light 'goes out' (not blinks) after some driving time. No noticeable change in RPM when it goes out. It does seem to happen after driving a while at highway speeds. Slow down and stop, light comes back on and works again for some time. No bucking or such as I have seen with other posts here and elsewhere. Did a transmission fluid change hoping it was old fluid. (it was pretty old) about 120K on the vehicle. Is light going out the same as blinking? Any ideas?

Tom,

The OD light is supposed to be off during normal driving conditions. So when you say it goes out I would assume you have the OD turned off and after a while it goes off? So 1st question do you have the OD off or On while you are seeing this issue. Or does the OD light come on right when you start the vehicle and then goes out after a period of driving?

Sorry, I was told it went off. But apparently it was indeed blinking... I was seeking help for my girlfriend. Her description was incorrect, when I asked her followup questions... She took the car to a repair shop in the meantime. Thanks for your response however. I appreciate your attempt to assist me.

220k on my '02 explorer, just started having blinking o/d light. no other issues to speak of. read a lot of forums. seemed like solenoid pack was not the fix, so was able to read about this fix. ordered parts with mod snap rings and extra orings. should have read the modified instructions and maybe save time and frustration getting old snap rings out. was on jack stands and only removed heat sheilds so didnt have a lot of space to work with. Got everything in, replaced filter and 5 qts mercon V. Did band adjustment. o/d now working. a little intermittent flare in 2-3, so will see if that goes away or needs finer band adjustment. Best of all, did not have to drop tranny, or go to shop to drop money I dont have. Thanks for a product that works and God Bless.

A friend and I installed your overdrive servo, new spring, new cover o-ring and new snap ring into my 2002 Ford Explorer with 206,000mi last night. Took about 3.5 hours, most of which was spent trying to get original snap ring off. We did install with just the heat shield moved out of the way. We bungied the pry bar, and when my friend finally got the snap ring compressed, I used a small screw driver to pry it out. The old servo came out easily. Everything else was a breeze. Today it runs like a dream (shifts into 2nd normally and I have my OD back), and engine lights have not come back after reset. Was quoted $2200 plus tax to rebuild the trans, and was discouraged from trying your product. I am glad I took the chance. Fingers crossed that it lasts.

Jeff,

Getting the old rings out is always the most fun part of the project! Great to hear overall it went well. I think you have the record for the most miles this fix was put in! Happy Shifting!

My transmission slips when going into 2nd from 1st. I have to let the gas up when I feel it do it. I don't have the OD symptoms like a lot of other people. It's a 2004 Aviator with 219,000 miles. 30,000 miles when I purchased it. Would I need the whole kit or just the IM servo?

If it is worn bores and it just started happening you can usually do a band adjustment and it will improve shifting slightly. That is a log of miles on the vehicle but our kit has been put in on vehicles with over 200K before with success. The OD servo actually controls 2nd and 5th so if you choose to only replace one it would be the OD. The IM controls 3rd.

2002 Explorer 4x4 will not shift from 2nd to 3rd, have to let up on the accelerator and it will seemingly shift into 4th? but between 2nd and 3rd just free revs (not revs smoothly either). No other known issues with the vehicls

Brad,

The 1st thing I would do is a band adjustment because it sounds like your 3rd band may be broke. The instructions to do so are on the tail end of our installation instructions on our site. If your band is not broke then adjusting it may change how it is shifting which will allow for further diagnosis.

Hey Andy, I hope you can help me. We purchased a 1999 Ford Explorer last year with transmission problems. We replaced the tranny and now are having problems again. The check engine light is on, the O/D light flashes and three weeks ago it left me stranded. It will start just fine, but the minute I try to put it in gear, it dies. We were told that we needed to replace the tranny again! It only has about 5,000 miles on the tranny that we replaced last year. (it was a used tranny). Any help?

For the 2001 and earlier Explorers we only deal with the replacement servos for them and nothing else. Did you have a warranty on the replacement tranny? Also, it could be that your torque converter is locked. It is supposed to slip when it gets put in drive then lock in after you press on the gas. If it is locked the rpms won't be enough to get you moving and it will choke the engine off.

Andy, Non-technical guy here! 2002 Explorer XLT 4x4 151K. Tranny re-built at 80K. No warnings, no flashing o/d etc, everything was running normal. Pulled onto highway, put foot down to merge, lost power but moved slowly Got off highway, could move slowly but only at high revs. Died a death on a slope, no forward or reverse gears, though engine starts and sounds fantastic. Would appreciate some feedback before I go and get it re-built again. Many thanks, Ian

Ian,

Sorry but you really have some issues and need to get it looked at. Our kit will not fix any issues that your are referring to. Sounds like the tranny is in limp mode and that is not good and you are looking at rebuild.

Andy i have a 2003 v6 explorer. its been shifting a bit hard into 5th gear. Rest seemed ok. Other day on my way home in started jerking pretty bad trying to get itself into 5th gear. It wouldnt go. So i had to baby it the rest of the way in 4th gear. I pulled the plug to drain and its got a burnt smell to it. Do you think your servos will fix my problem?

Very likely worn bores which out kit would fix especially if you have over 100,000 miles on it. If you are not having problems with 2nd yet then I would put our kit in. If you have issues with 2nd also I would do a band adjustment 1st just to make sure your band isn't breaking.
